About Dorset Troopers
Who are you and what do you do?
Dorset Troopers are a voluntary non-profit Star Wars costume group raising money for Julia’s House Children’s Hospice.
Where are you located?
Bournemouth, Dorset, UK.
How long has the group been going?
10 years.
How did you start?
We decided to form our own group with like-minded friends with the intention to keep it more personal. Each of our members is picked and treated as a person and an integral part of the group, not just a number and suit.

How many members do you have and are you looking for more?
25 and yes.
How many events do you roughly attend a year?
30 to 40.
Is there a particular charity that your group supports?
Julia’s House Children’s Hospice.
Characters and Costumes
What characters are in your group?
Mainly Empire but with the occasional Rebel.
Character list includes Darth Vader, Stormtroopers, Sandtroopers, Scout Troopers, Clone Troopers, Kashyyyk Scout, Havoc Trooper, Shadowtrooper, Boba Fett, Chewbacca, Imperial officers, Tusken Raiders, Gonk droid, Rebel Endor Trooper and many more in the pipeline, including 6 The Force Awakens First Order Stormtroopers and a Rogue One Shoretrooper.
Do you have any non-canon, Legends characters?
Mainly canon, but we are open to all considerations.
Joining Dorset Troopers
What entry requirements do you have?
Members have to be over 18 due to insurance reasons. Clearance is done in person in armor or costume. New members must complete 3 events as crew before trooping as a character and are on probation for 6 months before being assessed to become a full member.

Interaction between a child’s dream and reality.
What’s the best thing about cosplaying for charity?
Putting a hobby to good use to help achieve goals.
What advice can you give for people looking to join a costuming group?
Do your homework. Go to events where your chosen group attends, talk to them, ask questions and see how they work.
